What is BioThane®?

BioThane® is a coated webbing material used for horse tack, dog gear and other equipment where strength, easy cleaning and resistance to water are useful. At LS Equestrian we use genuine Beta® BioThane® to handmake custom horse tack in New Zealand.

Why choose BioThane® horse tack?

Waterproof and practical

BioThane® does not absorb water in the same way leather does, making it practical for wet weather, muddy rides, endurance and distance riding, trekking and everyday use.

Easy to clean

There is no oiling or conditioning routine. Most dirt, sweat and mud can be rinsed or wiped away, making BioThane® bridles and tack particularly useful when equipment needs to be cleaned regularly.

Strong and durable

Beta® BioThane® combines a polyester webbing core with a protective coating. LS tack is stitched using bonded nylon thread and finished with stainless steel hardware.

Consistent in wet conditions

Because the coated webbing does not soak up water like leather, it stays much more consistent in weight and feel when conditions turn wet.

40+ colours and reflective options

BioThane® horse tack does not have to look overly bright. Choose traditional colours, contrasting combinations or reflective options, with custom colour placement available across much of the LS range.

Custom sizing

LS Equestrian tack is handmade in New Zealand with sizing options from mini to draft and made-to-measure options available on selected products.

What horse tack can be made from BioThane®?

BioThane® can be used for endurance bridles, bitless bridles, halter bridles, breastplates, reins, halters, driving reins and other riding and driving tack. Its easy-care finish makes it especially practical for equipment that is regularly exposed to sweat, rain, mud and water.

BioThane® vs leather horse tack

The right material comes down to the look, feel and maintenance you prefer. Leather offers traditional character and can last for many years with appropriate care. BioThane® offers a different advantage: it is waterproof, simple to wash and available in a much wider range of colours. Riders do not need to treat one as universally better than the other.
