About us

Just Chaps is a family-owned business based in the South Downs National Park on the outskirts of Midhurst. Helen Salmon and her team have developed the widest range of Half Chaps, Full Chaps and waterproof riding trousers, all combining the features that we believe are of most importance to today’s rider – comfort, function and style – at a price that you can afford.

The Half Chaps range has grown from the original “Classic” leather and “All Purpose” neoprene , to include more specialist fabrics for riding in the heat, “Cool” perforated faux suede and “Endurance” air mesh.

We have now introduced two premium products - Saltos Leather Gaiters and Saltos Leather Half Chaps - which have won "Best Value" in Horse & Rider. Both are made from the best full-grain leather and cut to our own pattern to ensure a great fit that works for more riders. 

The successful launch of the Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding Trousers was recognised by Horse & Rider and Horse & Hound when Just Chaps won "Best in Test Overtrousers" in 2023 & 2018. Helen continues to focus on the range of waterproofs - both trousers and full chaps - essential items for all riders. 

Just Chaps display and sell their range at most of the largest Horse Trials and Shows – where they meet and speak with customers and build on their unmatched experience and understanding of what the rider really needs.

Comfort

Just Chaps are cut for comfort and a snug fit. We use natural and man-made fibres that give - and also use elasticated panels for extra flexibility. We also have a very wide range of sizes to fit all riders from tiny tots, tall and willowy, to fuller figures – and take pride in the fact that it is very rare for us to have to turn a customer away. Comfort also means not freezing or over-heating so we offer chaps for the depths of Winter, like our Dri-Rider fleece-lined full chaps and also for those hot Summer days, such as our Cool perforated faux-suede and Super Cool airmesh.

Style

We all ride better when feeling confident and comfortable. Our designs reflect the range of needs that riding presents – from formal competition to hacking out . So whether it is classic understated leather or funky hot pink, you will find something to match your mood.

Function

Our chaps work – and keep on working. Sturdy zips and poppers, careful double-stitching and tough fabrics all work together to make sure that they do not lose shape. "Be seen, be safe" is a motto for all riders – so we have a wide range of high-visibility chaps that use the latest reflective materials.
